“Aural Cut” is an immersive, participatory performance by Francis and Mathias Klenner, where electroacoustic haircutting becomes a ritual of care, catharsis, and sonic exploration. Using contact microphones on scissors, the act of haircutting is amplified, distorted, and woven into shifting soundscapes composed live, transforming a gesture of intimacy into a multi-sensory performance. Recorded during a residency at La Infinita, Barcelona, the recording reflects the duo’s research into the vibrational field of sound, ancestral practices, and the emotive power of hair as a conduit for transformation. With layers of natural reverb sourced from abandoned buildings and improvised rhythmic patterns, the release makes audible the delicate trust between cutter and receiver—where vulnerability, attention, and affection converge into a raw, affective landscape of improvised composition and body-specific ritual.
